How Veneers Can Restore Your Confidence

Find your smile and your self-esteem again with a little help from dental veneers.veneers

Have you always dreamed that one day you would close that gap between your front teeth or fix chips or other imperfections in your smile? Well, it might be time to stop dreaming and start doing! Our Hilton Head Island, SC, dentists, Dr. Julie Camp-Tome, Dr. Benjamin Wietecha, and Dr. M. Glenn Barker, can help make your dream smile a reality thanks to dental veneers.

What are dental veneers?

These thin customized porcelain shells are bonded to the front of one or more teeth to alter its shape, size, or color. Think of veneers as adding an additional layer of enamel over the front surface of a tooth. It will improve its strength, durability and its appearance.

Who is a good candidate for veneers?

Most people dealing with cosmetic flaws can benefit from what dental veneers have to offer. Veneers can easily cover up:

  • Stains and discolorations
  • Chips, cracks, and fractures
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Uneven teeth
  • Teeth that are worn down or too small
  • Minor crookedness, crowding, and gaps between teeth

Veneers can give you a straighter, brighter, and more ideal smile in just a couple of visits. Some adults who have small twists, crookedness, or other alignment issues can often get the straighter results they want with veneers instead of getting braces.

What does this cosmetic procedure entail?

It’s important to understand that getting veneers is a commitment. Once you have veneers you will have them for life. Each veneer is custom-made so we have to take impressions of your mouth to send to a dental lab so they can create veneers that perfectly fit your teeth.

Furthermore, we will need to shave off a very small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth. This ensures that there is enough room for the veneers and that your smile looks natural rather than bulky. Of course, our Hilton Head Island cosmetic dentists will need to make sure your teeth are healthy and have enough enamel to support veneers.

Once your veneers have been made, we will check the look and fit before bonding them to the front of your teeth using bonding resin and a dental laser to harden the resin in place.
