  • Benjamin Thomas Wietecha, DMD
    Owner

Dr. Wietecha grew up in Columbia, S.C. where most of his family resides today. He was fortunate enough to grow up in a happy and close-knit family. His mother taught in early education, his dad is an oral surgeon, and he has two older sisters.  One sister became a physical therapist while the other works for a medical supply company.  Both are married and he has three nephews and two nieces. Growing up with an oral surgeon for a parent allowed him to experience dentistry from a very early age.  Childhood nights at home included slide presentations of maxillofacial pathology, trips to the office to see emergency patients and play with dental wax and modeling stone.  Perhaps not everyone’s idea of bliss, but it instilled in him an appreciation for working with his hands and science based problem solving, and he loved it!

Dr. Wietecha attended Furman University graduating with a B.S. in Biology in 2005. He then attended the University of South Carolina pursuing a 2nd degree in Biomedical Engineering but was accepted to the College of Dental Medicine at MUSC prior to the completion of his Engineering degree. Following his graduation from dental school, he gained acceptance to the General Practice Residency based at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, S.C. His time at Richland focused on advanced techniques in general dentistry including management of the medically compromised patient, complex exodontia, reconstructive techniques along with dental implant placement, and parenteral sedation modalities.

Dr. Wietecha chose a career in dentistry because health care provides him an opportunity to help others. While studying at USC and throughout his time at MUSC, he volunteered at a free medical and dental clinic for the underserved. That experience opened his eyes to the wonderful gift dentistry can be to those who need its services.  It is a perfect blend of biology, engineering, and close personal human interaction, which he finds both stimulating and enjoyable.

Outside of dentistry, he enjoys his family and friends, health and fitness, hiking, camping, and automobiles. He has enjoyed becoming a part of the wonderful Hilton Head community.
